As seen in Automotive Design & Production

  • Cutter Developed for Aluminum Finishing

  • Machining Today

As materials are introduced to automotive production plants, so, too, are the tools needed to machine them. Here’s a look at some of the developments.

  • Improving Transmission Shaft Machining

  • Major Gains in Energy Reduction through Minor Adjustments

You may be surprised at how you can achieve output, quality, and energy savings in machining operations.

  • On Mfg - April 2014

New Inserts for Machining Cast Iron  What: Two Tiger•tec Silver geometries and two grades for cast iron machining: RK5 for roughing and RK7 for interrupted cuts.

  • Removing Metal

Some things remain the same. But there are also significant changes in the area of cutting metal.

  • Need to Know: IMTS 2012

International Manufacturing Technology Show - September 10-15, 2012 - Chicago, IL.

  • On Mfg

Inserts for improved turning; thread tapping tools; interference-free five-axis machining.

  • Sandvik’s New CoroMill 316 End Mills Extend Depth of Cut

Sandvik Coromant has developed three new end mill inserts for its CoroMill 316 exchangeable head milling system: a ballnose mill for profile milling, aluminum machining and finishing; a corner radius mill for slot, shoulder, plunge and face milling, as well as ramping and pocketing; and a chamfer mill for chamfer milling and spot drilling. The mills, all of which feature two cutting edges, extend the depth of cut range by 30% to 0.8 x cutting diameter (Dc) compared to previous CoroMill 316 end mills (0.5 x Dc).

  • End Mills for Hard Steel

  • New Process Developed for Gear Machining

Heller Machine Tools and Voith, a Germany-based transmission manufacturer, have developed a process that permits the pre-milling and milling operations to produce bevel gears and gear components on a five-axis machining center rather than on a dedicated gear-making machine. To produce gears, they start with the drawing of the part.

  • Need To Know: IMTS 2010

In its 28th year as the premier manufacturing technology show in North America, the 2010 International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) is being held Sept. 13 to 18 at McCormick Place in Chicago.

  • CoroTurn HP Toolholder Features Coolant Jets

CoroTurn HP from Sandvik Coromant combines the Coromant Capto toolholder with high-pressure coolant jets to deliver fluid at up to 80 bars at the exact point of cut when combined with a negative insert in turning centers, vertical turning lathes, and multi-task machines.

  • Tooling Topic

From grooving to honing, here are some new tools that you ought to be aware of for better production.

  • Advances in Metalcutting

Grooving & SlittingGrooving and slitting ops are facilitated by a new family of tools launched by Sandvik Coromant ( There is the CoroMill 329 cutter, which deploys CoroCut two-edge inserts and a strong V-rail clamping interface.

  • Objects of Interest - March 09

Ultrasonic Sensors Fit into Tight SpacesThe F12 series ultrasonic sensors from Pepperl+Fuchs feature automatic synchronization capability, allowing up to 10 sensors to operate in very close proximity to one another, without any potential for cross-talk.

  • Cutting It: An array of equipment that can help undertake even your most-demanding machining tasks

What: Name & Source: Features & Functions.

  • Tools of the Trade: Machining

Here are some things to know if you're in the metal removal arena — they'll help you get it done faster, better, and probably less expensively.

  • Faster Cutting: Cut In Balance

Somewhere between higher spindle speeds and cutting tool performance capabilities lies the answer to the dilemma of achieving higher feed rates without sacrificing accuracy and productivity. Perhaps it's the toolholder...

  • Cutting Tools & a High-Speed Chase

For years, machine tool makers claimed their machines could work at higher speeds, if only cutting tools could perform effectively. Advances in cutting tool materials and technology seem to have evened the score. But who is the fastest?
