Say a Little Prayer. . .
Nowadays, we probably need all of the help that we can get, both physical and, yes, metaphysical. In thinking about the conditions that vex this industry, it is probably worthwhile to take to heart the words often attributed to 20th-century American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr, part of the “Serenity Prayer”:
God grant me the serenity to
Accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
While it is certainly important to have the acceptance of not being overwhelmed by the things that are outside of our control, it is equally essential for us to have the will to take on the things that are within our capabilities—even if it means stretching ourselves.
