Superfinishing Smaller Crankshafts
What: The CrankStar, a tape-based superfinishing machine for crankshafts with minimal bearing clearances

Important to note: The CrankStar allows microfinishing of crankshafts with journal distances of just 33 mm. Crankshafts for three- to six-cylinder engines can be processed without changing the set-up. In addition to machining the usual main bearing, pin bearing, and thrust bearing surfaces, the front pivot pins can be machined in a single- or multi-step process. The machine deburrs flange boreholes as well (an option). The machine has a 200-m long tape, a first for a vertical machine. A monitoring system checks things like tape end, breakage and other factors to keep uptime high. When a change is required, tape rolls are replaced from the front of the machine, reducing the strain on the operator.
Pertinent data: Crankshafts made of cast iron or steel with a distance between center of 300 to 650 mm and a maximum swing diameter of 210 mm and a stroke of up to 110 mm can be finished on the microfinishing / superfinishing machine in one or more steps.
Cutter for More Efficient Profiling, Shoulder Milling
What: The Walter Blaxx F5138 helical flute cutter designed for profiling and shoulder milling steel, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, or materials with difficult cutting properties

Important to note: The F5138 has four-edged, tangential indexable inserts designed to achieve profiling and shoulder milling feedrates up to 30% higher per tooth than conventional cutters. These inserts are positioned to ensure there is a large mass of carbide in the direction of the cutting forces and a large material cross-section providing maximum rigidity. Vibration is reduced by the helically positioned cutting edges with free-cutting geometries and concentricity. Internal coolant supply to all cutting edges is available.
Pertinent data: The F5138 has four available grades of Walter’s “Tiger-tec Silver” cutting material: two for steel and cast iron (WKP25S and WKP35S) and two for stainless steel and difficult-to-cut materials (WSM35S and WSP45S). Diameters range from 1.5 to 3 in. with two different cutting lengths per diameter.
T-Slot Milling Cutters
What: The SD-SP15 family of narrow slotting and groove milling cutters

Important to note: These slot milling cutters consist of interchangeable, solid carbide T-slot 1.25-in. diameter milling heads with eight teeth and cylindrical steel shanks assembled with a spline connection designed to withstand cutting forces during slot milling and bending forces caused by long overhangs. An adapter is available with the SP15-size spline connection on one side and a threaded connection on the other side, enabling the use of all MULTI-MASTER T12 standard shanks.
Pertinent data: The SD-SP15 milling cutters have a width range of 0.125 to 0.250 in. for a maximum depth cut up to 0.315 in.
New Generation of Laser Marking Machines
What: The M-series of laser marking machines for quick and precise processing of parts; the M2000-B/P/R and M3000B/P/R

Important to note: FOBA’s laser marking machines come in two housing sizes and three model options to help track and trace parts. The basic “B-models” have a programmable Z-axis, a worktable and an electric lift door for quick and easy loading. The “B-models” are manually loaded and intended for laser marking single parts with a rotation/swiveling unit available for marking on the circumference of cylindrical parts. The “P-model” workstations mark different positions on a workpiece in three axes (with the capability to expand to five). The “R-models” are two-station turntable machines automated for higher throughput. To ensure accurate marking, each machine in FOBA’s M-series is equipped with high-precision calibration and an “Intelligent Mark Positioning” camera system. The configurable laser beam sources are air-cooled and virtually maintenance free. To enhance productivity, an electric height adjustment feature allows operators to sit or stand while using the machines. To make the work area accessible and visible from all sides, the control panel is mountable on the left or right side and major control elements as well as status displays are in the front of the machine.
Pertinent data: The M2000B/R and M3000B/R models have Z-axis travel of 590 mm with travel speed of 25 mm/second. The M2000P has X, Y and Z-axis travels of 315, 225 and 590 mm with speeds of 25 mm/second for the Z and 100 mm/second for the X and Y-axis.
