Kia’s Clever Design

By:

30. August 2013

Kia has been racking up red dot design awards over the past few years like Meryl Streep receives Academy Award nominations (it received four this year, including a “Best of the Best” for the pro_ceed). One suspects that if the Kia Niro concept that it will be revealing on September 10 at the 65th Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (a.k.a., the Frankfurt Auto Show) makes it to the market, it, too, will be a winner.

While details are scant, it is a B-segment vehicle that was designed at the Kia studio in Frankfurt under the direction of Gregory Guillaume, Kia’s chief designer in Europe. (The studio, coincidentally, is less than a kilometer away from the fairgrounds where the show takes place.)

The vehicle was designed with the European market in mind, although given the appearance, it could be translated into a variety of markets.

The company says that the Niro will “preview and innovative new powertrain.”

Heck, stick the 2.0-liter GDI engine used in the Forte in it, and the Niro would be good to go.
