Future Audi Design (Sort of)

6. November 2013

This is Audi designer Frank Rimili and his design colleagues looking at the “Audi fleet shuttle quattro,” a vehicle they developed for the film Ender’s Game, which is set some 75 years in the future. The vehicle is entirely virtual, not a physical model. Speaking of the vehicle, Rimili said, “Designing the Audi fleet shuttle quattro was similar to customizing a tailor-made suit. We adapted it to the requirements of the world in Ender’s Game and at the same time had to take car to preserve our brand values.”

Here is what they are looking at, evidentially an interpretation of “quattro” that is putting power directly at the four corners of the car:

This is what the digital car looks like:

In the film, actors drive. But because this fleet shuttle quattro is purely digital, they couldn’t drive it. An Audi A7 Sportback is used for the “real” driving:

Then the fleet shuttle quattro was put in the film in post-production.

The future, evidentially, is now.
