GrabCAD, which claims to be “the largest online community by, and for, Mechanical Design Engineers” (>195,000 engineers), has announced the winner of its Supercar Body Challenge: the first place entry was developed by Darren McKeage:
The contest, which was organized with 500 Group, an intellectual property company, required that the cars designed use GM performance parts hardware and GM V8 engines (LS3, LS7 and LS9 engines).
What’s more, the design brief noted that the car would have speeds of excess of 225 mph, so aero was important, and that visibility from the cabin was key.
It also stated: “Make it aggressive, clean and beautiful.” McKeage certainly accomplished that.
During the 40-day competition 194 submissions were received. The winners were selected via crowdsourcing, with the entries that met the requirements of the brief and received the greatest number of “likes” sharing in the $3.500 in prize money.
Congratulations to all who participated.
