Global output of cars and light trucks will reach nearly 83.4 million units this year from about 81.7 million units in 2012, LMC Automotive Ltd. predicts.

The biggest gains will be in China (+10% to 20 million units) and southeastern Asia (+12% to 4.3 million units), according to the Oxford, England-based research firm. LMC says India’s output will advance only 4% to 4.2 million vehicles in 2013.

Production in North America will rise 3% to 15.9 million vehicles this year. Annual output hasn’t topped 16 million units since 2007.

Production in South American will climb 6% year over year to nearly 4.6 million vehicles, thanks to an expected 8% increase in Brazil, according to LMC.

In Europe, a 5% increase to 7 million units in central and eastern Europe (about half from Russia) will partly offset a 9% drop to 11.6 million vehicles in western Europe.
