Assembly: Tape It

Can tape be used in place of fasteners?

Is it possible to tape parts together? According to the people from MACtac Technical Products (Stow, OH; www.MACtac.com) its GS Series tape can be used to replace mechanical fasteners in some applications. The GS Series is a rubber-backed adhesive tape available in thicknesses from 5 to 50 mils; strips can be customized with widths ranging from ¼ to 11-½ in. The tape can be used with metal, polyethylene, polypropylene, glass, extruded polymers, and other materials. In addition to its adhesion, the tape also has gap-filling properties and can serve as a sealant to prevent moisture build up.
