Hummer HX: Even the Floor Is Purposeful
Interior of the Hummer HX
With an abundance of aluminum sheet and billet, the interior of the Hummer HX concept is as purposeful as that of an M1 Abrams tank, although a whole lot more comfortable. No detail went unconsidered in the interior, not even the floor. The rubberized material has a camouflage-style grain pattern. Explains Michele Killen, creative designer for the Hummer HX color and trim, “We wanted something that would work with all age groups and genders.” What’s more, she says that they wanted to have something that would be visually interesting whether or not the removable roof was in place. “We knew we wanted to get rubber material because the floor has to stand up to the rigors of off-road conditions,” she explains. She turned to automotive interior texturing provider Tenibac-Graphion (www.tenibac.com) to achieve the specific camo pattern.

“We designed this grain so that it is able to go into production,” Killen says, but doesn’t say when or whether this will occur. She admits, however, “If we decide to use it, it will spread throughout the Hummer brand, but it still needs some work before we decide on production intent.”—KMK
