Forget What You Know About Speaker Design
While this may look like an ordinary computer monitor, it’s much more. Flat-panel speaker maker NXT (www.nxt.com) teamed up with Gateway (www.gateway.com) to develop a personal computer with a monitor that doubles as a loudspeaker. The entire surface of the monitor on the Lifestyle PC is actually a speaker. Toyota and Citroen are already using NXT’s flat panel speaker technology on select models—Toyota’s FJ Cruiser offers a speaker system that encompasses the entire headliner—but NXT wants to make further inroads into the auto market, envisioning an opportunity to turn the entire instrument panel and headliner into a seamless speaker system, although it has not signed any contracts for the applications.—KMK.
