Its latest version eliminates the gap between the fascia and headlamps, integrates a nitrogen bubble-infused plastic “leg catcher” structure below the high-strength steel bumper bar, and improves installation space on the X and Z axes by refining the cooling system module design. To utilize this technology, says Stefan Schmidgall, HBPO’s R&D director, OEMs must utilize an “open” body structure (i.e., no bumper beam holding the body in white together laterally prior to module insertion) and stabilized colors to eliminate paint mismatch between the module and the rest of the body.—CAS
