Pinch-prevention sensors are extruded into glass, door or other closure seals.

A sensing system that is said to be an economical means of meeting the FMVSS Section 5 requirements related to pinch protection of people and pets (and inanimate objects) from power windows, sun roofs, deck lids, lift gates, and sliding doors has been developed by Cooper-Standard Automotive. There is the Proximity Obstacle Detection Sensor (P-ODS) which provides power door or window reverse signals if an animate object comes within 3 mm of the extruded sensor during mechanism operation. There is also the Tactile Obstacle Detection Sensor (T-ODS), which is redundant for animate objects, and is activated via contact with an inanimate object (with as little compression force as 40 N). Both are integrated via an extrusion process into the closure seal or glass run channel for ready applications on vehicles.
