Extreme Batteries

Gasoline?

Gasoline? Diesel? Hydrogen? How about AA batteries as the energy source for future vehicles? To promote its new Oxyride batteries at the 2005 Consumer Electronics Show, Panasonic developed the “Extreme Power Car,” (shown here). The name is a bit grandiose given that the car is essentially three bicycle tires, a lightweight shell and an electric motor, but it is driven by only two AA batteries. However, there are a few restrictions: the driver of the 40 lb. vehicle can only weigh about 100 lb. and the batteries have to be replaced every kilometer or so.
