Wholesale deliveries of passenger vehicles in China rose to 1.44 million units last month from 1.28 million units in April 2012, according to the China Assn. of Automobile Manufacturers.
That gain included a 46% surge to 228,000 SUVs and crossovers and a 10% increase to 977,000 sedans.
Commercial vehicle sales in the country advanced 15% to 400,300 units last month. Total vehicle sales grew 13% to 1.84 million units.
April wholesale volume in China climbed 15% to 261,900 vehicles at General Motors, 3% to 102,800 units at Nissan and 37% to 75,300 units at Ford. Volkswagen has not yet reported its sales in China for last month.
Deliveries dropped 7% to 76,400 vehicles at Toyota Group and 2% to 60,600 units at Honda.
In the January-April period, passenger vehicle sales to dealers in China rose 16% to 5.86 million units. Total vehicle volume grew 13% to 7.27 million units.
