Occasional Observations & Opinions

By Gary S. Vasilash, Editor-In-ChiefGary's BioWrite Gary

And Then There Were None.

Although this space usually deals with some sort of issue related to how things are going-or not-in the industry, this item is admittedly different.

Even though writing "2000" on checks is something that still eludes us at times, the year 2001 is going to be upon us sooner rather than later, which means that those people who publish calendars have already had their presses rolling.

If you are an auto enthusiast of any kind, then we've got to recommend that you keep on track through 2001 with a wall calendar from Hemmings Motor News. These are 12 x 12-in. calendars that have brilliant photography of some of the best cars and trucks that have ever rolled on asphalt. One of our favorites in the calendar lineup shows cars that have rolled off of asphalt: Abandoned Autos: An Annual Appreciation of Aesthetically Abandoned Ancient American Automobiles. Sometimes it is better to rust than to burn out. Others in the series of 14 different calendars are Model A Fords, Muscle Cars, Cars of the '50s, British Cars, and Great American Custom Cars.

In addition to having all the days of the year, there is information provided about important dates in automotive history (e.g., Dodge introduced the Charger on January 1, 1966) and about some auto shows (this is not by any means a complete listing, as the North American International Auto Show, which will be held January 13-21, 2001, isn't included).

The calendars are available for $11.95, plus shipping and handling. You can check them out at hemmings.com.
